Description
These Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies are thick, fudgy cookies that take less than 30 minutes to make. Red velvet cookie dough is rolled in powdered sugar. As the cookies bake, the powdered sugar creates a beautiful crackled top. These cookies have the most delicious fudgy centers and I guarantee won’t last long after you bake them!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 10 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon red gel food coloring
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar, for coating
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Add powdered sugar to small, shallow dish. Set aside.
2. Melt butter in a microwave safe dish, or in a saucepan over the stove. Once the butter is melted, stir the red food coloring into the butter.
3. In a large bowl, or the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, add sugars, butter mixed with the red food coloring, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until combined.
4. Add in the flour, cocoa powder, salt baking powder and soda. Mix just until combined.
5. Scoop cookie dough by 3 tablespoon measurements. Add cookie dough balls, one at a time to the powdered sugar. Roll the cookie dough ball through the powdered sugar to fully coat. Place onto prepared baking sheet. Repeat with remaining cookie dough balls.
6. Bake in oven for 9-10 minutes.
7. Allow cookies to cool for 1 minute on baking sheet, before removing to a wire cooling rack.
Notes
When measuring flour for baking recipes, you always want to use a spoon to scoop the flour into the cup. Without doing this, the flour will be packed in the cup and will result in using too much flour in the recipe.
To achieve the beautiful red color of these cookies, opt for using gel-based food coloring instead of liquid. The gel food coloring is more concentrated and will result in a more vibrant red color.
Red velvet cookies are meant to be soft and fudgy, so keep a careful eye on these as they bake. They only take 9 minutes, 10 at the longest to bake. They may look slightly underbaked, but they will firm up as they cool.
