Description

These soft, fluffy garlic rolls are made with fresh garlic in the dough, and are topped with a buttery, fresh garlic and herb butter. These rolls require one rise and can be made in roughly an hour. These rolls freeze well, too!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk, warmed to 110F
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

Egg Wash

  • 1 egg, beaten

Garlic Butter

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Freshly grated parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

1. In the bowl of a stand mixer, fitted with the dough hook attachment, add the yeast, warm milk, bread flour, garlic, salt, egg and softened butter. Knead on medium-low speed 4 minutes. Transfer dough to a greased bowl. Spray the top of the dough with nonstick cooking spray, then cover the bowl with plastic wrap.

2. Allow the dough to rise in a warm, sunny place for 45 minutes. If you do not have a warm spot in your kitchen, you may turn your oven on. Once it reaches 100F, turn the oven off. Place the covered dough in the warm oven and allow to rise for 45 minutes.

3. Once the dough is done rising, punch the dough down, and divide into 20 roughly equal pieces of dough. Roll each piece into a ball, and place in a greased 9×13 inch pan. Allow the rolls to rest while the oven preheats.

4. Preheat the oven to 350F.

5. Once the oven is up to temperature, brush the beaten egg over the rolls. This helps the rolls achieve a nice golden brown color. Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

6. While the rolls bake, make the garlic butter. In a medium size bowl, stir together the melted butter, salt, garlic powder, some fresh parsley and some grated parmesan cheese.

7. Once the rolls are done baking, brush the melted garlic butter over the rolls. Serve the rolls with additional freshly grated parmesan cheese, if desired.
