Homemade Granola
This Homemade Granola is an easy, versatile recipe that is made with simple, wholesome ingredients. Old fashioned oats and nuts are tossed with coconut oil, honey and maple syrup, then baked until golden and crisp. Break the granola into big clusters or into smaller pieces and add your favorite dried fruit or chopped chocolate for added flavor.

Granola is one of my favorite snacks. I can eat it by the handfuls, mixed in with my bowl of vanilla yogurt, and as a layer in my fruit and yogurt parfaits. I think I’ve tried just about every granola that exists and I knew I wanted to make a simplified version at home with wholesome ingredients.
I actually didn’t realize just how simple making your own granola was until I got started. Homemade granola only requires a handful of ingredients, and you can even customize it to add whatever your favorite toppings arel There’s nothing quite like the taste of fresh granola, warm out of the oven.
I made this as part of a Mother’s day brunch I made for my mom. I paired it with my croissant egg bake and fresh fruit salad. It was the perfect, tasty brunch to celebrate my mom.
Here’s what you will love about this Homemade Granola
- Versatile – you can add chopped chocolate, your favorite nuts (pistachios, walnuts, a blend of nuts), and your favorite dried fruits. Feel free to be creative!
- Wholesome, simple ingredients – this granola uses maple syrup and honey to sweeten it. No refined sugars. Most of the ingredients you probably have in your pantry already!
- Easy – this granola only takes minutes to toss together and roughly 18 minutes to bake. It’s truly easy!
Here’s how to make this homemade granola
You can either add the old fashioned oats to a large bowl, or directly onto your 1/4 sheet pan. I added mine directly to the 1/4 sheet pan. Make sure your sheet pan has parchment paper on it! Otherwise it will stick. I found this out the hard way. Add the nuts, salt and cinnamon and toss to combine.
Next, you’ll melt the coconut oil in the microwave. You can also use olive oil if you don’t have coconut oil on hand. In the last couple seconds of heating the coconut oil, I added the maple syrup and honey. This helps to warm and thin out the maple syrup and honey, thus making it easier to pour over the oat mixture.
Once warmed and melted, pour the coconut oil and sweeteners over the oat mixture. Use spoons to toss the ingredients together and evenly coat everything. Spread into a thin layer.
BAKE
Now, it’s time to bake! Bake in 350F preheated oven for 18-22 minutes, or until the mixture is a light golden brown color.
ALLOW TO COOL
Now the most important part is allowing it to cool! This creates the granola clusters. The granola hardens together as it cools. Allow to cool for 30 minutes. Once cool, use a spatula or spoon to break the granola apart, or use your hands if you want bigger clusters.
Storage
Store in an airtight container for up to 4 weeks at room temperature. You can also freeze this for up to 3 months.
